What is a CMR document and why is it legally required?
A CMR (Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road) is an internationally recognised transport document that is legally required for every vehicle transport — both domestic and cross-border. It serves as formal proof that the transport has taken place, records the condition of the vehicle at pickup and delivery, and is legally binding.
The CMR is important for customers as it may be needed to reclaim VAT and is the key reference document in the event of a damage dispute. The carrier is always responsible for preparing and issuing the CMR.
