What is HVO100 and why is it more sustainable than diesel?
HVO stands for Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil. HVO100 is a biodiesel produced by treating vegetable oils and fats — such as used cooking oil — with hydrogen. Because it is made entirely from renewable raw materials, HVO100 emits 80 to 90% less CO₂ from production through to combustion compared to conventional fossil diesel.
It also burns more cleanly than traditional diesel, producing significantly less soot and fewer harmful pollutants, and ignites more readily, leading to more efficient combustion and lower fuel consumption per transport.
