What is the CO₂ compensation option?
The CO₂ compensation option is a voluntary add-on available when placing a transport order, introduced by TransConnect in January 2025.
When you select it, you fund the retirement of certified carbon credits that match the estimated CO₂ equivalent emissions of your transport order. The credits support the Paulownia plantation project in Croatia, developed by Naturevest and managed via TransConnect's partner Ecommit.
The option applies per order and covers the entire shipment. The cost is calculated based on your transport's estimated CO₂e emissions and shown at checkout at €80 excluding VAT per tonne CO₂e — Ecommit's price, with no margin added by TransConnect. After participating, you receive a quarterly confirmation document listing the retired credits and a unique certificate number.
Please note that "100% compensation" means that carbon credits equal to 100% of the estimated emissions are retired — it does not mean the transport itself becomes emission-free. The option is designed to complement emission reduction efforts, not replace them.
