What is the Dutch truck toll?

The Dutch truck toll (vrachtwagenheffing) is a per-kilometre charge introduced in the Netherlands on 1 July 2026. It applies to all lorries with a maximum authorised weight of more than 3,500 kg driving on the Dutch main road network and parts of the secondary road network — including foreign hauliers. The charge is based on the number of kilometres driven, the vehicle's weight, and its CO₂ emission class. Cleaner and lighter vehicles pay a lower rate.

The charge is recorded automatically via an on-board unit (OBU) and invoiced through a toll service provider. For more background, read our blog post on the Dutch truck toll
